The President has praised the Irish people's response to the refugee and homeless crisis.
In his Christmas message, Michael D Higgins says Ireland can draw inspiration from the plight of the homeless Mary and Joseph for our own lives and times.
And President Higgins says with 1 in every 122 people on the planet now a refugee, Ireland has, as a migrant nation itself, responded with an understanding:
