A man has been found guilty of groping a patient while she slept at the Mater hospital.

The 31-year-old was working as a care assistant at the time.

The woman, who doesn’t want to be named, said she woke up during a stay in the Mater hospital in Nov 2013 to a rubbing sensation on her chest.

When she opened her eyes, she saw Folajimmy Awode lifting his hand from her body.

She said she went back to sleep but woke up for a second time to the same sensation. When she did, she saw Awode standing over her. She said he looked stunned and just took off.

She jumped out of her bed and raised the alarm.

The head of the nursing and care staff night approached the care assistant, who’s 31 and lives at Ballinteer House, Tyrellstown, and he denied her accusation.

He also pleaded not guilty at the outset of his trial, but following three days of evidence and four and a half hours of deliberations, he was found guilty by a majority verdict.

His bail was then revoked and he was remanded in custody ahead of his sentence hearing next month.
