A murder investigation is underway after Dublin’s latest gangland shooting. Jason Molyneaux was shot dead at a flat complex in North Strand last night.

The 27 year old, who also went by the nickname Buda, was shot dead at the James Larkin House flat complex.

He was known to gardai, had over 100 previous convictions - and was shot up to six times after coming from the wake of his friend Derek Hutch.

Derek was killed over a week ago in Clondalkin and his funeral is taking place this morning amid a tight garda presence on Sean McDermott Street.

Superintendent Gerry Murphy described it as a "callous murder... that has occurred in an area that has been subject of a number of murders in the past."

"We need the help of the community to assist us", he appealed.

"We are out there on an ongoing basis but we need the help of the community and in particular I am appealing to the community to come forward and help us with this investigation."

Local Councillor, Nial Ring says the community has had enough.

"I think at this stage we can only describe it as a cancer that is eating away at the soul of the north inner city community", he told 98FM News.

The 27 year old was taken to the Mater Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardai are investigating if Jason Molyneaux was shot dead as part of the ongoing gangland feud or it it was to do with a separate local feud in Ballymun.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the gardai at Store Street.
