A young man has been jailed for three years for his role in an attack on a teenage girl, that left her blind in one eye.

Josh Cummins, of Raheen Drive in Ballyfermot, Dublin, is the second person to be sentenced for the attack.

Alanna Quinn Idris suffered catastrophic injuries that led to the loss of her vision in one eye after being hit with the saddle of an e-scooter two years ago.

A group of young men followed her and a friend of hers after some words were exchanged on a Dublin bus.

When Alanna and her friend got off the bus in Ballyfermot, the gang followed them.

What happened next was described in court as a “shocking, egregious and unprovoked attack.”

Josh Cummins was just 17 at the time. He pleaded guilty to charges of assault causing harm, violent disorder and of producing a hurley during the fight.

The court accepted that he didn’t hit Alanna but he was culpable by virtue of the fact that he took part in a joint enterprise with the others.

Cummins, who’s now 19, was jailed for three years today.

In March, another young man was jailed for 4.5 years for his role in the attack; another is still before the courts, while a fourth person has yet to be identified.
