A man’s appeared in court charged in connection with a drug seizure near Balbriggan yesterday.

The 39 kilogrammes of cannabis resin, worth an estimated €234,000, was discovered following the search of a car at a service station on the M1 Southbound at Baldrumman.

This morning, 44 year old Mark Donnelly from Aghanore Road in Armagh Town appeared in court charged with possession of drugs for sale or supply.

Detective Garda Eoin Roche from the Garda National Drug unit said he made no reply when charged at Balbriggan Garda Station.

No bail application was made at today’s hearing and Judge Patricia McNamara remanded him in custody to Cloverhill District Court next Friday.

Mr. Donnelly has applied for legal aid but Judge McNamara asked for a statement of means and other documentation as the accused is from outside the jurisdiction.
