A man in 70s has been arrested after a handgun was seized in Saggart.
Gardaí attached to the Dublin Crime Response Team carried out a search operation on Sunday afternoon.
They also discovered a quantity of ammunition.
The gun has been sent to the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau to undergo analysis.
The man was arrested at the scene, but has since been released from Garda custody following questioning.
A file will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Investigations are continuing.
