A murder trial has heard that a man told gardai he stabbed his neighbour’s dad because he was trying to ’stop the poison’.
31 year old Dragos Nica from Mourne Park in Skerries admits stabbing Michael Gannon but has pleaded not guilty to his murder by reason of insanity.
55 year old Michael Gannon was at his daughter’s home in Skerries in November 2013 where he babysitting his two grandkids and a neighbour’s child. He opened the door and was stabbed to death by Dragos Nica.
The court heard Dragos Nica had told gardai he had kissed the victims daughter Jade at a party a few before the stabbing and claimed she had pricked him on the finger with something.
He said he thought it was poison and on the day of the stabbing he thought he was going to die soon from this poison and he saw a bulge in his arm.
He told gardai he went to the kitchen, got a knife and went next door and stabbed the victim. He said he thought about killing the kids too and going on a rampage but said when he stabbed Mr Gannon the anger left him.
A sergeant told the court when he arrested Dragos Nica he said ‘’ I had to do it, the poison is killing me. I did it to stop the poison.’
