An Italian who caused an Ebola scare on a flight to Dublin yesterday has got off with a warning.

56 year old Roberto Binaschi appeared in court after being arrested at the airport yesterday.

Gardai were called to Dublin Airport just before lunchtime after a passenger on board an Aer Lingus flight from Milan wrote "Attentione Ebola" on a coffee cup.

The businessman said in court today that he did it as a joke because his daughter is fussy about germs but that it was a big mistake.

Judge Anthony Halpin called it a serious matter but conceded it was a 'sick joke'.

He let the Italian man off with a warning and he agreed to make a 2,500 euro donation to the Capuchin Friary.
