A man's been arrested after a serious stabbing in Cavan.
It happened at a house in Kilnaleck this afternoon.
The victim - who's in her late 40s - suffered serious stab wounds - and has been taken Cavan General Hospital.
A man in his late 50s has been arrested in connection with the attack and is being held at Cavan Garda Station.
It's understood the man is a well-known Republican and served a sentence for a serious crime committed in the mid 1990s.
The scene of the incident has been preserved for a full technical examination.
