Protestors, that included men on horseback, blocked a road in Coolock last night over potential plans to house asylum seekers in the area.

It resulted in part of the Malahide road coming to a standstill for a time.

The protest initially started at a former factory that is actively being considered to house asylum seekers. It was the third day demonstrations have been held at the old Crown Paints site.

It led to part of the Malahide Road being blocked for more than half an hour with men on horseback riding down the road causing traffic to back up.

Sections of the route were closed off by gardaí while the public order unit was on standby according to the Irish Times.

It comes after screenshots of an email from the Department of Integration, on plans for the former warehouse, circulated on social media.

Local councillor John Lyons is concerned tensions could escalate even further;

"Public representatives got an email yesterday from the Department of Integration to say they are actively considering whether or not to use the Crown Paint site to temporarily accommodate people seeking international protection.

But that was really it in terms of information so a lot of disinformation and misinformation has circulated online."
