Major travel disruption is on the cards at Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann.
The NBRU are holding a day of action on May 1st while SIPTU have given the companies an ultimatum for guarantees on working conditions or they’ll head to the picket line.
This row stems from plans by the Government and National Transport Authority to sell off one in 10 bus routes.
Over 30 Dublin bus routes are affected as well as a number of Bus Eireann services from Dublin to Kildare, Offaly and Laois.
The NBRU are holding a day of action on May 1st, the Friday of the Bank Holiday weekend, which includes a protest march to the Dail.
However, SIPTU have given the companies, NTA and Government an ultimatum; they want guarantees on a number of issues or the travelling public will face major disruption.
Willie Noone from SIPTU says they have until April 24th to respond.
He says they’ll hand in strike notice to the companies if they don’t give them the reassurances.
Willie added that although they don’t know the full details of the NBRU action, he expects SIPTU members to join their colleagues that day.
