The Dublin Docklands Development Authority has offered to pay over half of the cost of fixing major fire-safety problems at Longboat Quay.

People living at the docklands apartment complex say they've found themselves in a "nightmare scenario", after being told they may need to pay towards the cost of fixing issues.

Owners of the apartments have been asked to help pay a €4M bill to fix fire-safety issues at the complex. It had been claimed that if the money to do the works wasn't made available that residents would be forced to move out because fire safety officials wouldn't allow them stay without the works being done.

However, Dublin City Council's reassured residents that they won't be forced to move out without warning.

The Dublin Docklands Development Authority has written to the Longboat Quay Management Company, offering to pay €2.75M towards the cost of remedial works.

The Authority says that it understands that the Receiver "whose interest includes 18 apartments in the complex, will also be making a substantial contribution".
