Nightclub Lillie's Bordello is to close in January, the owners have announced.

The club - which has been operating on Grafton Street since the early 1990s - is one of the city's best-known high-end venues.

It's become known for frequently attracting celebrity guests such as Rihanna, Julia Roberts and Mick Jagger, alongside many local stars.

The venue is part of the Porterhouse Group, which also operates the nearby Porterhouse Central pub.

In a statement, the group said it has 'exciting plans' for the venue which will be revealed next year.

Owner Liam LaHart said 'times are changing' and they wanted to leave the venue 'on a high'.

Speaking on Dublin Talks, he explained: "The nightclub business is quite difficult, and we're probably looking at more late bars than nightclubs for our model of business.

"Dublin city centre is a great place to go... but the nightclub end of it is just not what it used to be."

Lillie's Bordello will continue to operate through the Christmas seasons, before shutting its doors on January 19th.

Recent accounts suggest the venue was still profitable, with the Irish Times earlier this year reporting the company behind the club recorded profits of €2.8 million for the year to the end of February 2017.
