With fine weather this Bank Holiday Monday, Water Safety Ireland is appealing to people not to take risks when getting into the water for a swim.
Not all beaches will be patrolled by Lifeguards due to a shortage of numbers applying for the job.
The organization has said a full list of manned beaches is available on their website: Water Safety Ireland
Roger Sweeney from Water Safety Ireland has this advice if you see anyone in trouble in the water:
"If you do see someone in difficulty remember three words: shout; reach and throw. Shout to encourage somebody back to shore. Sometimes that's all it takes to orientate them back. Reach is to reach out with something such as stick or a piece of clothing. Don't get into the water unless you have lifesaving skills. And throw is to throw a ring buoy or anything that floats - that's all that's need to bring someone back to shore. Make sure that as you do this you get someone to ring 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard. "
