Leaving cert students could earn points for failing.

It's part of new reforms being discussed by universities.

Students who get between 30 and 39 percent on higher level papers could still earn points for sitting the honours exam.

There's also proposals tot give bonus points for studying subjects directly relevant to college courses.

It's to discourage students from taking subjects considered to be easier.

Guidance Counsellor Brian Mooney isn't sure that's fair on other teens taking their exams:
