The green light has been given to demolish Kiely's pub in Dublin 4 to make way for a co-living development.

The Donnybrook bar was made famous by the Ross O'Carroll-Kelly book series.

An Bord Pleanála granted approval for a scaled down 85 unit co-living scheme over six floors. The developer had looked for permission for a hundred units.

Ian Guider, columnist with the Business Post, says there were over a hundred objections to the plan;

"I think it was a bit of a surprise back in 2019 when it was announced that the owners of Kiely's planned to close the pub and the site was being put up for sale for redevelopment and it changed hands to a property developer for around €5 million."
