An investigation is underway after the brother of Gerry 'the Monk' Hutch was shot dead on the northside last night.
Eddie Hutch Senior was gunned down between Ballybough and North Strand, in what appears to be a revenge attack for the Regency Hotel murder on Friday.
Four masked men burst into his home on Poplar Row at around 7.45pm yesterday evening, shooting him a number of times.
Eddie Hutch Senior was a taxi-driver and not considered a major player in the gangland scene. He was not regarded as a violent person and wasn't criminally active.
His partner was at home at the time of the shooting.
A Silver 3-Series BMW, used by the armed gang, was later found abandoned and intact on St Patrick's Parade in Drumcondra.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to help trace the movements of the car.
This latest shooting marks the escalation of a gangland feud. It all started last September in Spain when convicted armed robber Gary Hutch was gunned down. It's believed rival gang member David Byrne was killed last Friday at the Regency Hotel in revenge.
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald will meet with the Garda Commissioner Noirín O'Sullivan this morning and says Gardaí will take all the necessary steps to try to prevent further bloodshed.
