Staff To Protest Over Clerys Closure

A crisis meeting of Clery's workers is taking place this morning - after the iconic department store closed its doors last night.

Over 400 staff at the store found out they had lost their jobs at close of business yesterday.

Workers were told the company had gone into liquidation, amid multi million Euro losses.

Trade union SIPTU are pledging to fight the closure and are holding an emergency meeting at Liberty Hall to discuss what action they will take.

Meanwhile, the group representing the retail sector has called the closure a 'sad day for the industry'.

Seán Murphy is the Deputy CEO of Retail Excellence Ireland - he believes the store simply 'ran out of time':
