Ibrahim Halawa is expected to appear in court in Cairo later today after he was detained along with his three sisters during a protest in Egypt last August.

It's understood his three sisters, Somaia, Fatima and Omaima, were all released from prison last night.

The four Halawa siblings were detained along with their teenaged brother when they got caught up in rioting in Cairo in Egypt during the summer.

A judge ordered the release of the three sisters who are all in their 20's. And, last night a spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that they have been informed by the Halawa family that their three sisters being held in a prison in Cairo have now been released.

However, their brother, Ibrahim, remains in custody and is expected to appear in court in Cairo later today.

The four siblings are from Dublin and their father is the Imam of the Islamic Cultural Centre in Clonskeagh.
