Hundreds of people have signed an online petition urging the Taoiseach to speak out about the migrant crisis in the Mediterranean.
Enda Kenny will join EU heads of state at a special meeting of the European Council, to discuss how best to respond.
They will try to hammer out a plan to address the problem.
