There are more people on trolleys in Beaumont Hospital than anywhere else in the country.

New figures released today show that in terms of patients waiting on trolleys, no other Dublin hospital comes close to Beaumont.

There are 53 patients in total waiting for a bed this evening in the North Dublin Hospital.

That's more than are waiting at St James and St Vincents put together.

Tallaght Hospital, with 27 people on trolleys, is the next busiest Dublin hospital.

While the Mater Hospital and Connelly Hospital in Blanchardstown have 12 and 15 patients waiting for beds respectively.

Sinn Féin Councillor Denise Mitchell says Beaumont Hospital is traditionally now becoming the worst in the state when it comes to waiting lists and people on trolleys.

"I recently had to visit Beaumont Hospital and I was shocked by the number of ill patients lying around on trolleys,” said the Dublin Bay North Councillor.

She added “This is a result of a chronic failure by the government to deal with the growing crisis in our hospitals. We need urgent action before someone dies."
