A group of housing activists have been ordered to allow inspectors in to examine a council owned hostel that’s been empty since 2011.
The Irish Housing Network went into the boarded-up building on Bolton Street last month to provide accommodation for homeless families.
The council owned terraced building, formerly known as Bolton House, was once a homeless hostel but was closed in 2011 after it was deemed “unfit for purpose”.
Last month, the Irish Housing Network took it over and began carrying out repair works to provide accommodation for homeless families.
Dublin City Council is now seeking legal action to have them removed, something Tommy Gavin from the IHN says is disappointing:
Today, the High Court ordered the group not to carry out anymore works and to allow inspectors in on Friday morning, but activist Oisin O’Rimhea was pleased the judge turned down applications to identify those staying there and to refuse entry to new residents.
The Irish Housing Network has now been given time to seek legal advice before a full hearing takes place next month.
