Health experts are meeting today to consider whether to restrict the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The National Immunisation Advisory Committee is examining whether to recommend only using that vaccine in certain age groups.

A number of EU countries have reacted to a reported link between AstraZeneca and rare blood clots by restricting the use of that vaccine to older age groups.

Immunologist Luke O'Neill says huge work is underway to identify the cause.

The National Immunisation Advisory Committee is meeting today to issue advice on whether the roll-out here should change.

NIAC's recommendation will go to the acting CMO and then on to the Health Minister for decision.

It remains to be seen what impact that could have on the pace of the roll-out here

It comes in the week the first single-dose Johnson and Johnson vaccines are due to arrive into the country.
