Half of students who drop out of their college course do so because they have made the wrong choice.

A lack of career guidance in school and general pressures on leaving cert students are some of the main reasons for picking the wrong third level course.

Dropping out is most likely to happen in first year with an average of 15 percent of college entrants.

The highest rate, 22 percent, is found in institutes of technology.
