The Minister for Health Leo Varadkar is due to announce today, plans to publicly fund for fertility treatment.
The treatment which usually costs around €4000, will be available under the public health system as part of new legislation that will be released this year.
The Department of Health says infertility can be a source of emotional distress, physical discomfort and financial hardship for people.
Its believed that one in six couples have problems when it comes to conceiving.
