A man has admitted murdering Irish student Karen Buckley, whose body was found on a farm in Glasgow in April.

Alexander Pacteau hit her over the head with a spanner before pouring a corrosive substance over her back in his apartment.

Karen Buckley went missing in the early hours of April 12th following a night out with friends and her body was found four days later.

Today, Alexander Pacteau admitted driving her away from the club just after 1am.

He parked up a short distance away and beat her to death with a spanner.

The court heard he then drove to his flat and brought her body inside.

The next day, he went to B&Q where he bought some caustic soda to help dispose of her body.

He then dumped her in a barrel and left on a farm he was familiar with on the outskirts of the city.

Police used CCTV footage to trace Pacteau back to his home and he was arrested and charged with her murder a few days later.

Counsel for Alexander Pacteau told the court today that he expresses regret and remorse for his actions, which he says were carried out under the influence of alcohol.

John Scullion said he’d been instructed to apologise to the Buckley family and Karen’s friends on behalf of Mr Pacteau.

The judge called the attack motiveless, senseless and brutal, and the actions of a callous and calculating man.

Mr. Pacteau was remanded in custody for sentencing on September 8th.

Her parents and three brothers were in court for today's hearing.
