The family of George Nkencho say they plan to appeal a decision not to prosecute gardaí after he was shot dead outside his home in Dublin.

Yesterday it was confirmed the officer involved will not face prosecution.

George Nkencho was shot dead by an armed garda in the front garden of his family's home in Clonee on December 30th 2020.

It followed reports of an alleged assault by a man armed with a kitchen knife in a nearby shop.

Gardaí said the 27 year-old was shot after tasers and pepper spray were used to try to subdue him.

The shooting was investigated by GSOC and a file was sent to the DPP, which yesterday confirmed it had decided not to direct a prosecution in the case.

In a statement, the Nkencho family say they're disappointed and that they intend to appeal the decision according to the Irish Times.
