Gardai believe they have prevented an attempted gangland shooting in the city.

It’s after four men were arrested and a gun and a silencer were seized on the northside last night.

Detectives investigating the activities of organised crime gangs moved in on these four men just after 8pm.

Two of them were picked up in Fairview where a gun and a silencer were also recovered.

The other two men were arrested around the same time in the south inner city.

The four men are aged in their 20s and 30s, and are believed to have links to the Kinahan crime gang.

They have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and are being held at various garda stations in Dublin.

The arrests are being described as very significant. One of the men in custody is understood to have been released from prison in July after serving a lengthy jail term.

It's understood some of the suspects are connected to David Byrne, the Crumlin man who was shot dead in the former Regency Hotel in Whitehall last year.
