Four men have been arrested after a full scale river rescue on the Liffey.

Shortly before midnight on Monday Gardaí at Irishtown responded to reports of a boat being stolen from a rowing club at Ringsend.

Gardaí attended the scene and a boat with a number of people on board was spotted stranded on the River Liffey. They had drifted into the Dublin Port shipping channel.

A full scale river rescue involving Dublin fire brigade was launched and four men were brought safely to shore at North Wall Quay a short time later.

The men, who are in their late 20s, were arrested and brought to Irishtown Garda Station

All four have since been charged and released to appear before Dun Laoghaire District Court next month.
