A jailed former worker at Anglo Irish Bank is being released from prison and will be home for Christmas.

62 year old Aoife Maguire of Rothe Abbey on the South Circular road in Kilmainham was one of three people to be jailed for trying to hide accounts from Revenue.

It was the prosecution’s case that Aoife Maguire told Anglo’s IT Department to delete several accounts and ensured one in the name of Sean Fitzpatrick’s brother in law wasn’t handed over to Revenue. She pleaded not guilty but in July she was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.

She appealed her jail term and this afternoon the three judges at the Court of Appeal have quashed her original sentence and given her a new one of nine months but suspended it for any time served. This means Aoife Maguire is being released from custody.

The 62 year old mum of one trembled and took deep breaths as the decision was read out. Her family cried when they realised she’s being released and will be home for Christmas.
