David Drumm has been arrested on an extradition warrant in the United States.
The former Anglo Irish Bank chief executive was arrested by US Marshals last night in Massachussetts.
He's being held in custody in Boston and is due to appear before a federal court on Tuesday.
The 48 year old moved to the US to undergo bankruptcy after he resigned from Anglo in 2008.
Gardai have been seeking Mr Drumm's extradition to face possible criminal charges here.
