Forecasters say there's no reason to believe this winter will be as bad as previous years.

Met Eireann's Gerry Fleming says that although it is hard to predict the weather in the long term, he can't see a repeat of the severe snow and ice of 2010:

Despite that, Dublin City Council will reduce water pressure over the next few weeks just in case a cold snap does hit.

The Government also launched this year's Winter Ready campaign today - which aims to provide simple and practical guidance to people in case of bad weather.

The National Emergency Co-ordination Task Force, made up of number of State agencies and transport providers, held talks today to plan for the months ahead.

Justice Minister Alan Shatter, chairman of the task force, says there will be over 200,000 tonnes of salt set aside this winter for any instances of frosty weather.
