Firefighters have come under attack in Finglas.

Last night, a group aged between 10 and 15 threw a glass bottle and a rock at a fire engine, smashing its back window.

The call which originally came in as a house fire turned out to be tyres on fire and black smoke was blowing towards a house.

One firefighter was sitting right beside the window when it happened. It's reported he was taking off his BA set at the time.

Local Councillor, David Costello, says the engine will now have to be taken out of service for repair, but it's not known how long that will rake.

The Fianna Fáil Councillor said "The members of DFB put themselves on the line for the people of our City on a daily basis and they do not deserve to be treated like this".

"Attacks like this affect the entire community This fire engine will have to be taken out of service for repair which could create delayed responce times for the community", he added.
