The government is reportedly trying to tackle the overcrowding crisis in our hospitals by imposing fines.

Hospitals are set to be fined 10-thousand euro each time they breach new directives aimed at tackling overcrowding.

Money collected will be re-directed towards hospitals that show they are making a good effort to keep trolley numbers low.

The Minister for Health and HSE Director General have reportedly written to the six hospital groups to inform them of the 'carrot and stick' approach.

The new directive makes it mandatory for hospitals to take specific steps towards tackling extreme overcrowding.
