A community group in Dalkey is appealing to politicians not to display election posters.

It's become the latest town to join a no poster campaign.

The Tidy Towns group say it's in an effort to be a litter free Heritage Town at all times.

Candidates running in next month's local and European elections are permitted to display posters from today.

The Dalkey Tidy Towns group yesterday said any posters displayed in the town would be 'removed and destroyed'.

However, hours later the group apologised for its wording.

It said it is 'kindly requesting' that candidates do not erect the posters.

It says the campaign is in relation to its battle against single use plastic.
