Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council says it's using CCTV footage to catch people spraying graffiti.

Last year, enough graffiti to fill a football field was removed in the area.

Workers have been active in their local community with residents helping to identify problem areas.

Shu Wai Tung is the staff officer in charge of litter and graffiti in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, he explains what they do.

“Through co-operation with the local residents, we can identify various black spots.  If possible, we give anti-graffiti removals kits and paint to local residents if they can maintain the area themselves. And also, we have a contractor to remove graffiti".

Shu Wai also said they’re trying to stop the vandalism by installing CCTV in blackspots.

“We always try to co-ordinate the camera contractor and the graffiti removal contractor so that as soon as the wall is cleaned, the camera is up to stop further graffiti attacks”.

Contractors were working in an area in the Lynwood Estate just off the Ballinteer Road where a walkway has been a hub for graffiti.

Mark Byrne’s company is in charge of  graffiti removal and he says it takes some time to removed the paint.

“What Rudolph is doing at the moment is he’s applying the graffiti removal chemical which clings to the surface and draws the paint or whatever they use out of the porous stone. We leave it on for about 10 minutes and then you remove everything with the pressure washer”.
