Pilots at Ryanair have voted in favour of industrial action. A 24 hour strike by pilots who are directly employed by Ryanair will take place next Thursday, the 12th of July.

The airline agreed to recognise trade unions for the first time last December. However, pilots are disappointed over the slow pace of talks.

120 of those directly employed by Ryanair have voted for industrial action, but it’s not yet clear how passengers will be affected.

Some of the issues include who gets first call on taking annual leave during school holidays and transferring between bases.

Labour's Transport Spokesperson has called on Ryanair to take the concerns of pilots and the needs of passengers seriously.

Kevin Humphreys warned that "thousands of customers" could be affected this summer.

"What Ryanair pilots are asking for is commonplace in many airlines and is not unreasonable", he said.
