The HSE says a woman living in West Dublin does not have Ebola.

The woman was taken to the National Isolation Unit at the Mater Hospital by ambulance after becoming sick this morning.

She had recently visited Nigeria, which the World Health Organisation today said has been free of the virus for 42 days.

In a statement the HSE said "The patient was considered a low risk for the Ebola Virus but this has now been ruled out. The HSE must, and does, take each Ebola scenario seriously no matter how low the risk."

It added "There are no known cases of Ebola in Ireland presently. The overall risk of a case of Ebola being brought into in Ireland is low."

The HSE has previously said emergency protocols are in place to treat people who suffer certain symptoms, after returning from a country where Ebola is reported.

A number of streets around The Mater were closed for a time this morning, while the patient was being transported.
