Dublin Port is set for a major expansion as a result of today's approval from An Bord Pleanala.
The project will involve a 3 kilometre deepening and lengthening of the port's berths. A deeper entrance channel will also be created.
This expansion will allow the port to accommodate large ships.
This is the biggest infrastructure project in the history of the port, and will take five years to complete.
Chief Executive of Dublin Port Company, Eamonn O'Reilly, is delighted "that An Bord Pleanala has granted Dublin Port planning permission for the ABR Project and to say that we can finance the project immediately".
Work on the 230 million euro project is expected to start this October.
