Mayor of Dublin Christy Burke is urging people to take extra care when swimming in open water.
It follows the death of 13 year old Ricky Osagi, who got into difficulty swimming in a lake in Blanchardstown on Friday evening and died in Temple Street Children's Hospital yesterday morning.
Councillor Burke says people of all ages need to be prepared - and use the right safety equipment when taking to the water.
