Dublin Marathon Winner Is Kenyan Eliud Too

Kenyan Eliud Too claims the 35th Dublin Marathon 2014 n in a time (to be verified) of 2:14:57

Esther Macheria claimed the women's race, followed seconds later by last year's winner Maria McCambridge

The first winner home was Patrick Monaghan from Naas who won the wheelchair with a record time.

 

Participants are running a 26.2 mile route that starts at Fitzwilliam Street Upper and ends at Merrion Square.

Bridget Nicholas from AA Roadwatch has this update for anyone wishing to travel into the city:

Road Closures: 

To facilitate the event, rolling road closures will be in place along the route from 8.55am to 4.45pm. Leeson St, St. Stephen’s Green South, Cuffe St, Kevin St, The Coombe, Meath St, Thomas St, High St, Lord Edward St, Essex Quay, Merchant’s Quay, Usher’s Quay, Usher’s Island, Victoria Quay, Frank Sherwin Bridge, Parkgate St, Phoenix Park, Chapelizod, Inchicore Rd, SCR, Crumlin/ Drimnagh/ Walkinstown Rds, Kimmage Rd West, Fortfield RD, Templeogue Rd, Terenure Rd East, Orwell Rd, Dartry Rd, Milltown Rd, Clonskeagh Rd, Stillorgan Rd, Nutley Lane, Merrion Rd, Shelbourne Rd, Haddington Rd, Northumberland Rd, Mount St Lower and Merrion Sq. Gardai will also be on point duty at all relevant jcts throughout the day.

Merrion Square North and South will be closed from 6am to 9pm.

Today, these roads will be closed during the following times and diversions will be in place:

  • Merrion Square East: 4am to 7.30pm
  • Merrion Square West: 6am to 7.30pm
  • Holles St: 4am to 9pm
  • Merrion St Upr: 6am to 5.30pm
  • Mount Sr Lwr, Mount St Upr and Stephens Place: 6am to 7.30pm  
  • Verschoyle Place, Grattan, St, Gratten Court, Wilson’s Place and Grant’s Row: 6am to 5pm
  • Clare St: 6am to 6.30pm
  • Lincoln Place: 8am to 5pm
  • Merrion Row, Baggot St Lwr, James’s St East, Herbert St: 6am to 11am.
  • Fitzwilliam St Upr: 4am to 11am
  • Fitzwilliam St Lwr: 4am to 7.30pm
  • Fitzwilliam Sq Nrth and Sth: 4am to 1pm
  • Fitzwilliam Sq East and Fitzwilliam Place: 4am to 11am
  • Fitzwilliam Sq West: 6am to 11am
  • Cumberland Rd, Kildare St and Pembroke St Lwr: 6am to 11am
  • Leeson St Lwr: 8am to 10.30am
  • St. Stephen’s Green South: 8.30am to 10.30am
  • Clonskeagh Rd, Roebuck Rd, Fosters Ave and the Stillorgan Rd (between Fosters Ave and UCD flyover) will be closed from 9am to 5pm.

The following roads in Pheonix Park will be closed;

  • Chesterfield Ave: 8.30am to 10.40am
  • Upper Glen Rd, Survey Rd and Knockmaroon Rd: 9am  to 12 noon

There will also be closures or restrictions in place at the following gates:

  • Ashtown Gate will be left turn only on entry
  • Knockmaroon Gate, Chapelizod Gates and Castleknock Gate will be closed from 9am to 11.30am.

There will be access to St. Mary's Hospital and Cara Cheshire Home via Islandbridge Gate/ Military Rd only from 9am to 12 noon.

If coming from the North or West of the city travelling to the RDS, it may be best to use the East Link toll Bridge and Strand Rd or to use the M50/ N11. Traffic coming from the south is advised to use the N11 and Aylesbury Rd. There will also be severe traffic restrictions on Merrion Square, Nassau St and around Stephens Green.
