A Dublin man has been jailed for a string of pharmacy robberies which he carried out to feed his drug habit.
Desmond Dunne who is originally from Clondalkin, but living in a hostel on Manor Street in Stoneybatter, pleaded guilty to the offences.
The court heard the 39 year old accused is a qualified chef who resorted to robbery to get prescription medication to feed his drug habit.
In November 2014 he began a three week crime spree and armed himself with a syringe and blade for three robberies and an attempted raid.
He has 23 previous convictions. His barrister said he was determined to put his addiction behind him.
The Judge said it’s an all too familiar picture of a very serious and deeply embedded drug addiction and sentenced him to three and a half years in jail.
