Dublin Fire Brigade is to begin industrial action over concerns around the introduction of a new call-out and dispatch system.
SIPTU says the Department of Housing is attempting to impose this Computer Aided Dispatch without consultation, and it's members won't be cooperating.
It would see every fire brigade on one national CAD system.
97 per cent of Siptu members at DFB recently voted in favour of industrial action.
They say a national system will add a dangerous new risk factor to their response times.
SIPTU Organiser, Geoff McEvoy, says it would undermine the effectiveness of Dublin Fire Brigade.
"The Government's proposal is only for Fire and Rescue calls, meaning the Ambulance calls that come into Dublin Fire Brigade have to go to a different system.
"So basically you're taking the service and your separating it into two different systems.
"It's like telling Dublin Airport to put Aer Lingus and Ryanair flights on two different air traffic control systems."
