Dublin isn't being given the chance to vote for a Lord Mayor.

Councillors in Fingal have rejected plans to introduce a directly-elected First Citizen.

Last week, City Councillors voted yes, and today Councillors in South Dublin also backed the plan.

However, all four of Dublin's local authorities needed to back the plan for it to be put to the people.

Councillors in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown are still expected to vote this evening, even though the outcome won't affect the overall result.

Sixteen Councillors in Fingal today voted against the proposal to hold a plebiscite on a Dublin Mayor on May 23rd.
