Drugs Worth €544,000 Seized At Dublin Airport

A man has been arrested after herbal cannabis worth over half a million euro was seized at Dublin Airport.

Revenue officers seized 27.2 kilos of the drug worth €544,000 yesterday.

The drugs were seized when a passenger was stopped and his luggage searched following his arrival off a flight from Johannesburg, via Dubai.

The cannabis was discovered concealed within vacuum packed packages in his luggage.

A man in his 60s was arrested and is currently detained at a Garda station in North County Dublin where he can be held for up to a week.

A revenue spokesperson says: "Yesterday (26/03/2023), as a result of routine operations, Revenue seized 27.2kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €544,000 at Dublin Airport.

"The illicit drugs were seized when a passenger was stopped and his luggage searched following his arrival off a flight from Johannesburg, via Dubai. The drugs were discovered concealed within vacuum packed packages in the passenger’s luggage.

"A man in his 60s was arrested by An Garda Síochána and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda station in North County Dublin.

"Investigations are ongoing."
