Most drug users, who are intimidated by criminal gangs, don’t report it. That’s according to a new report released by the City Wide anti drugs campaign.
This report gives an alarming insight into the city’s drug culture. It found over two thirds of drug users who have been threatened or intimidated by drug dealers and gangs, didn’t report it for fears of reprisal.
It also says gangs often go after people’s families to pay their debts – especially their mothers. It's also discovered that personal safety was a huge issue with 70% feeling unsafe in their own homes.
These revenge attacks included physical violence, damage to their homes and in a third of cases their mothers were targeted.
The main reason for the attacks were drug debts of between 500 to 5000 thousand euro.
And in many cases the debt didn’t end, even when it was paid off.
