Drop In Number Of Crimes Reported

Levels of recorded crime fell sharply during the pandemic.

However, figures from the CSO shows there was an increase in the number of fraud crimes.

The statistics are released 'under reservation'.

The number of burglary's fell sharply in the year to March, down 45%, when compared to the same period the year before.

CSO figures on recorded crime show there was also significant falls in theft, down 30% and robbery, down just over a quarter in the same period.

The number of assaults also declined, they are down just under 14%.

However there was an increase in the number of fraud crimes , up 13% in the year to March.

Drugs and weapons offences were also up.

Just under 10,500 offences were recorded for breaches of Covid 19 restrictions in the first quarter of this year.
