Dozens Of Cars Seized For Unpaid M50 Tolls

Unpaid M50 tolls has resulted in dozens of cars being seized.

One motorist has been fined 25 thousand euro this year as the state cracks down on fare dodgers.

The compliance rate for the toll section of the M50 is very high at 96.7 percent, but this still leaves 1.5 million unpaid tolls in a 12 month period.

This year a drive to catch persistent offenders who are those who rack up 100 or more unpaid tolls.

Around 2500 cars are considered the real hardcore offenders.

One or two cars are now being seized every week while one offenders was fined €25,000 as a result of 5 separate convictions.

At the end of October, 55 out of 274 criminal cases had resulted in convictions.
