Germaphobes are being told to fist bump instead of shaking hands.

A study by Aberystwyth University in Wales has found it reduces the chance of spreading germs by 90%.

It also found that a high five spreads about half the amount of germs a traditional handshake does.

Dr. Dave Whitworth said "People rarely think about the health implications of shaking hands."

"If the general public could be encouraged to fist-bump, there is genuine potential to reduce the spread of infectious diseases."

The results will be published in August's edition of the American Journal of Infection Control.
