This week DCU have set up 54 gender neutral bathrooms across all three campuses.
The toilet sign is an image of a male, a female, a body which shows half a male and a half female and a disabled symbol.
This sign is to welcome anyone including the transgender community to use the bathrooms.
DCU are describing the bathrooms as ‘Universal Access Bathrooms’ and students have been fighting for the bathrooms since 2015 when it was mandated by the Class Rep Council. 
DCU's Welfare and Equality Officer Cody Byrne, who brought in the new bathrooms, talked about the importance of being an inclusive college;
"We went with Universal Access Bathrooms because it's more inclusive of all minorities, irrespective of any bracket (gender, disability, ethnicity)".
"It's important in the extent that, symbolically, DCU is an all-encompassing place that is here to support all of it's students. Free from discrimination and that it really is a place to be yourself".
Members of the DCU LGBTA community talked about why they supported the new bathrooms;
“Everybody deserves to have the use of facilities where they feel safe and comfortable. There’s a phenomenon in places like the US that try to make more out of this issue than what it is, which is providing for the inclusive use to our trans and non binary fellow citizens of public bathrooms in which they feel safe and comfortable”.
“Without gender neutral bathrooms often transgender students will not feel comfortable using the toilets on campus, this isn’t acceptable. Not only will it allow these students to feel more comfortable and safe using the bathrooms around campus, it gives a message out to current and future students that DCU is a transgender inclusive university”.
Other Dublin colleges like Trinity and IT Tallaght have also introduced the new bathrooms over the last year.
